OUR PROJECTS

Our research are of an interdisciplinary character and combine basic science with clinical sciences. The main scope of our research is based on the cardiovascular system, in particular its clinical anatomy and morphological changes of heart in various disease units. The conducted research, besides an unquestionable cognitive aspect, also provides a high potential for practical clinical use. More broadly, the topics of HEART scientific research include:

- anatomy,
- histology,
- molecular biology,
- radiology,
- cardiology,
- electrophysiology,
- cardiosurgery,
- 3D medical imaging and 3D print.

In particular, our scientific interests include:

- learning the exact architecture of the cardiovascular system, with particular reference to the clinical anatomy of areas of human heart that are relevant from the point of view of invasive cardiology and electrocardiology (cardioanatomy),

- myocardial imaging with the use of echocardiography and tomography as well as determining the suitability of these techniques for visualization of the anatomical details of the heart,

- identification of cell populations that build heart valves (aortic valve, pulmonary valve, and mitral valve),

- mapping (macroscopic, microscopic and molecular) of the electrical conduction system of the heart and identification of microvascularization patterns within its individual elements,

- learning the impact of pulmonary hypertension on the morphology of the right and left ventricles, and, in particular, the molecular mechanisms responsible for the left ventricle mass loss in end-stage pulmonary hypertension,

- the use of micro-computed tomography enhanced with inorganic contrasts and specific antibodies labeled with gold nanoparticles for the purpose of imaging the internal structure of the heart.
